2016-17 Marian Athletics Top 10 Moments
#8 - Senior Guard Nicole Paulus Joins 1,000 Point Club
Entering the season, senior guard Nicole Paulus needed to have the best year of her career if she wanted to reach 1,000 career points and she did just that.
Paulus entered her final year as a Sabre with 623 career points but went on to score 433 points, the eighth-most in a single season in Marian history. Her 1,000 point moment came in a 52-49 win on the road against Edgewood where she was able to put in a layup after being fouled on a fast break midway through the second quarter. She would go on to finish her career with 1,056 points, good for 12th on the all-time scoring list.
Paulus finished the 2016-17 with the sixth-highest scoring average in Sabre history at 18.0 making the sixth-most free throws in a season with 107. The Belgium, Wis. native was a model of consistency scoring at least 15 points in all but three games she played in while accounting for 33-percent of the scoring for the Sabres. She was honored as an All-NACC Honorable Mention recipient for the year.
For her career, Paulus finished third in Marian history with 165 made three-pointers, sixth in three-point field goal percentage at .349 and ninth with 193 made free throws.
