#7 - ACHA Wins Regular Season and Conference Tournament Championships

The Marian men's ACHA hockey team's inaugural season could not have gone better as the Sabres went 11-1-0 in conference play to earn the top seed in the conference tournament before beating UW-Oshkosh and Robert Morris for the championship sweep.

In the opening round against UW-Oshkosh, the Sabres were able to defeat the Titans handily 8-1 with a balanced attack and a 27-save performance from Frederik Radbjer.

The finals of the NCHL Tournament Championship pitted the Sabres against Robert Morris, the only team who knocked off the Sabres during the regular season.  Marian would take a 2-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the first period but RMU rallied with a pair of goals to send the teams knotted 2-2 into the first intermission.  Lonnie Clary broke the tie in the second period, assist to Kirill Proskurin, and capped off a hat trick with a goal to open the third period to put MU up 4-2.  Bryton Tomko iced the game with a power play goal in the final minute to clinch the championship sweep.  Justin Davidson earned the win in goal for Marian with 18 saves.

The Sabres would qualify for regionals but were knocked out in the opening round by Davenport by a 4-3 final.  Marian finished the season 18-4-0 overall, a perfect 9-0 at home, and spent most of the season ranked regionally climbing to as high as No. 5 in the rankings.

Offensively, the Sabres averaged 5.3 goals per game scoring five or more goals in 15 games.  The Sabres were just as impressive on the defensive end only allowing 43 goals, 2.0 goals per game, with five shutouts.

Miles Giorgione had a big season for the Sabres and took home NCHL Rookie of the Year accolades.
