(Fond du Lac, WI) - Marian University defeated Wisconsin Lutheran College 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Buttermilk Creek Park. With the victory, the Sabres moved to 10-4 overall, but more importantly, 7-1 in the Northern Athletics Conference.
Edgewood College also won on Wednesday evening, setting up a big dual on Saturday between both teams. Marian and Edgewood are tied atop the NAC with identical 7-1 records in conference play. Marian will match up with Rockford College on Saturday morning and then meet up with Edgewood in Madison at 3:30 PM.
Marian won all six singles matches and two of three doubles matches to pull out the victory. Michelle Zwicky (Fond du Lac, WI), Rebecca Heczko (Iron Mountain, MI), Emily Bates (Fond du Lac, WI), Reilly Connaher (Fond du Lac, WI), and Melanie Seitz (Panama City, Panama) all won with ease in their two-set victories in singles play. Jamie Raquet (Kiel, WI) also won in singles as she came back from a 1-0 deficit to win in three sets.
In doubles play, Heczko and Connaher were 8-2 winners at #2 doubles, while Seitz and Bates won 8-3 at #3 doubles.
Connaher is now 14-0 at #5 singles this season, while Seitz is 12-2 at #6 singles.
Seitz and Bates are 11-1 at #3 doubles, while Connaher and Heczko are 12-2 at #2 doubles.
