(Fond du Lac, WI) - Marian University came close to upsetting MSOE on Tuesday evening, but ended up falling 2-1. The Raiders came into the game undefeated in Northern Athletics Conference play and stayed that way. The Raiders scored the game-winning goal in the 61st minute to move to 10-4-1 overall and 7-0-0 in the NAC.

The Raiders struck first in the contest as Dan Kolokoski scored in the 8th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Marian's Peter Xiong (Fond du Lac, WI) had the answer in the 20th minute as he found the back of the net on beautifully-played free kick.

In the second, the Raiders' Mike Vanek provided the game-winner off assists from Kolokoski and Brian Meissner.

MSOE outshot the Sabres 18-10 in the contest and held the Sabres to only two shots in the second period.

Marian's Nick Henkemeyer (Prior Lake, MN) stopped nine shots in the contest.

Coach Peltonen's Quotes
“ Another tough loss. We battled and hustled and stayed in the game because of our hard work. MSOE scored first, but we answered back with a great free kick goal from Peter Xiong to tie things at 1-1. It was a fairly even game, but we didn’t create many dangerous attacking chances, where as MSOE had a few. Our keeper Nick Henkemeyer was up to the task on all of them. There winning goal came on an MSOE player dribbling from the center line and having 5 of our players dive in and not get the ball or the player, finally creating a 2v1 in front of Nick.”

“For us to win more games we have to either be more dangerous in the attacking third off the dribble or by penetrating, or be more effective in transition. At times we could get to MSOE’s final third, put then we had difficulty penetrating past their back four. A game ball goes to Peter Xiong for his excellent goal on the free kick.”
