Lakeland too much in the second half for Marian

(Sheboygan, WI) - Lakeland College outscored Marian University 54-38 in the second half on Saturday and erased a five-point halftime deficit to come away with an 84-73 victory at Woltzen Gymnasium. With the loss, the Sabres (9-14, 6-9 NAC) can no longer qualify for the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament. Lakeland (11-12, 8-7 NAC) clinched a NAC Tournament berth with the victory. 

The Sabres led 35-30 at halftime as despite being outshot in the first half. Josh Washington (Milwaukee, WI) sparked the Sabres in the first half as he recorded 8 points, 3 rebounds, and added 2 steals off the bench. 

The Muskies opened the second half on a 17-5 run in the first 2:53 to take a 47-40 lead. The game stayed close and Marian pulled to within 65-63 with 4:34 to play, but the Muskies then scored the next seven points to take a ten-point lead with 1:25 to play. 

Marian cut it to 74-69 with 1:04 to play, but could get no closer as the Muskies went 10-for-10 down the stretch from the free-throw line. 

Bryan Ashbeck (Wabeno, WI) led the Sabres with 17 points in the contest. Logan Rankin (Algoma, WI) posted a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Kevin Hudak (Ashwaubenon, WI) chipped in with 10 points. 

Lakeland held a 39-35 advantage on the boards.
