(St. Paul, MN) - Marian's
Melissa Calder (Fort Frances, ON) has been named NCHA Player-of-the-Week in the Women's Division, the league announced today. Calder put together an outstanding performance in goal for the Sabres last weekend against UW-Superior.
Marian lost twice to the Yellowjackets
during their Friday-Saturday series, but Calder made things interesting during the Saturday game. She totaled 53 saves in a 2-0 loss, posting 19 saves in both the second and third periods. In the second period, she stopped all 19 shots on goal, and she turned away all four UW-Superior power play attempts.
On the season, Calder is averaging nearly 27 saves per game. She has made 481 total saves, which is second in the NCHA. Despite seeing so many shots each game, Calder has managed a save percentage of .894.
