Big run in first half helps CUW defeat Marian

(Mequon, WI) - Concordia University went on a 17-0 run in the first half to help them defeat Marian 97-89 on Tuesday evening. With the game tied at fifteen with 10:22 to play in the first half, the Falcons went on their 17-0 run over the next 5:43.

Concordia-Wisconsin led Marian (8-12, 5-7 NAC) 46-27 at the half thanks to hot shooting. They shot 58% in the half and held Marian to just 30%. The Falcons also connected on 6-of-9 from behind the three-point line.

In the second half, the Falcons led 68-39 with 12:42 to play and appeared headed for an easy victory. Marian, however, battled back and trailed just 91-85 with 1:03 to play. The Sabres were never able to get any closer however.

Marian scored an impressive 62 points in the second half.

The Falcons received some big production from their bench as their bench outscored Marian's 49-24.

Marian turned the ball over just eleven times and out-rebounded the Falcons 40-39. Marian ended up shooting 43% (34-for-79), but allowed the Falcons to shoot 57% (32-for-56).

Marian was led by Logan Rankin's (Algoma, WI) 22 points and 12 rebounds. Kevin Hudak (Ashwaubenon, WI) added 20 points, while Jeff Harris (Calumet Park, IL) and Bryan Ashbeck (Wabeno, WI) added 18 and 17 points, respectively.

Edward Newton-Kemp led the Falcons with 23 points off the bench, while Mitchell Schneider added 18 points.
