Marian clobbers Carroll in non-conference action

(Waukesha, WI) - Marian University had no problem sweeping Carroll University on Tuesday afternoon as they out-scored them 38-1 in the twinbill. Marian won game one 21-1 and then finished the day off with a 17-0 victory. 

The Sabres out-hit the Pioneers 17-5 in game one and jumped on them early with nine runs in the first two innings. They busted the game open with a seven run fifth inning.

Several Sabres had big offensive games. Will Martin (Villa Park, IL) was 4-for-5 in the game with five RBIs. Tim Holtz (Oshkosh, WI) was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Jace Unrein (Racine, WI), Ryan Dalton (Franklin, WI), and Phil Seis (Antigo, WI) all had two hits. 

Josh Klismith (Stevens Point, WI), Unrein, and Seis all drove in three runs. 

Tyler Goggins (Waupaca, WI) picked up his first victory of the season in the contest. He struck out four in his five innings of work. He gave up just one unearned run. 

In game two, the Sabres scored in every inning except the sixth in the shortened contest. Marian out-hit the Pioneers 20-6. 

Klismith and Unrein both starred at the plate in game two. Klismith was 3-for-4 with seven RBIs, while Unrein was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Klismith also homered in the game.

Ryan Hiller (Marshfield, WI) recorded three hits, while Anthony Porcaro (Burlington, WI), Chad Langley (Racine, WI), and Martin all had two hits. 

Matt Schroeder (Howards Grove, WI) also picked up his first victory of the year as he went the distance in the shutout. He struck out eight. 

Marian (7-14) is back in action again on Thursday, as they will play a make-up game at Rockford College. First pitch is slated for 5:00 PM.

Michielah Navis
Women's Volleyball

Sophomore Michielah Navis (Waupun, WI) helped the Sabres open the season with a 2-2 record at the St. Norbert College Tournament. Navis led the team with 104 assists this weekend. She was second on the team in digs (37) and service aces (6). 



Jade Koeune
Women's Soccer

Freshman Jade Koeune (Winneconne, WI) had a solid opening week for the women's soccer team. Koeune sat out last season with a knee injury, but tied for the team-lead in scoring in week one. She scored five points (1G/3A) for the Sabres, who beat Beloit College, but fell to UW-Oshkosh.
