Sabres and Warriors each win in slugfests

(Milwaukee, WI) - Saturday's doubleheader between Wisconsin Lutheran College and Marian University featured 77 hits and 71 runs with both teams winning a game. The Warriors won game one 18-10 with the Sabres winning game two 23-20. 

In game one, the Warriors broke open a 1-1 tie with six runs in the second inning. Marian got back to within 8-6 in the top of the fifth, but the Warriors answered with five more runs to make it 13-6 and the Sabres never got any closer. 

The Warriors out-hit the Sabres 21-15 in the contest and were led by Ethan Geis, who went 5-for-5 with five RBIs and five runs. He homrered twice. 

Marian was led by Jace Unrein (Racine, WI) and Tim Holtz (Oshkosh, WI) as they both had three hits. Unrein had a pair of runs and RBIs, while Holtz scored three times. Holtz hit his team-leading fourth home run in the ninth inning. Anthony Porcaro (Burlington, WI), Ryan Hiller (Marshfield, WI) and Ryan Dalton (Franklin, WI) each added a pair of hits. Hiller drove in three, while Porcaro scored twice. 

Game two was back-and-forth throughout. Wisconsin Lutheran scored four times in the first, but Marian clawed back and tied it at 4-4 in the third. Wisconsin Lutheran wasted no time getting the lead back, scoring four times in the bottom of the third. 

Marian grabbed their first lead of the contest in the fourth, scoring five times. They tacked on two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to take a 12-8 lead. 

Things looked bleak for the Sabres after the seventh inning, as they gave up nine runs and trailed 17-12. Once again, they answered, as they scored seven times in the top of the eighth to take a 19-17 lead. The Warriors took a 20-19 lead in the bottom of the eighth, but Marian tacked on three more to win the contest in the ninth inning. 

Josh Klismith (Stevens Point, WI) had a big game with four hits and five RBIs. Dalton, Unrein, and Holtz all recorded three hits. Dalton had three RBIs and three runs, while Holtz scored twice. Porcaro, Hiller, and Seis all had two hits. Porcaro had four RBIs and four runs scored, while Hiller had three runs and three RBIs. Seis had a pair of RBIs and runs. Ryan Seifert (Germantown, WI) walked five times in the contest and scored four runs.

Dustin Andrus (Oakfield, WI) picked up the victory in relief. He gave up just two hit in his 2.1 innings of work. 

Marian (11-23, 7-11 NAC) is back in action on Monday, as they will host Lakeland College at Herr-Baker Field. Action is set to begin at 3:00 PM.

Baseball
Porcaro led the Sabres with a .500 average (8-for-16) this week. He sported an on-base percentage of .619 and scored a team-high six runs. He also added a pair of RBI.
Amy Malcore
Softball
Malcore finished her career with an impressive Northern Athletics Conference Tournament. She was 5-for-11 (.455) at the plate with a double and a home run. She scored a team-high four times and slugged .818.
