No. 4 Sabre ACHA squad sweeps UW-Oshkosh to close first half

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The No. 3 regionally-ranked Marian University ACHA hockey team (11-4-1, 8-2-0 NCHL) closed out the first half of the season sweeping UW-Oshkosh by a combined margin of 13-2.

In the opener, Marian scored four goals in the second and third periods as they cruised to a 9-1 win over UW-Oshkosh.  The Sabre offense was spread out with seven different goal scorers and 11 unique Marian student-athletes recording a point.  Bryton Tomko would be the lone Sabre to net multiple goals as he went on to record a hat trick with a goal in each period.  Dan Liberko, Devin Chmura and Brandon Mills each scored in the second period for the Sabres, while Colin Wilson, Paul Kinder II and Austin Flores added tallies in the third period.

Flores went on to record a game-high four points with three assists to go along with his goal.  Mills had a pair of assists to go with his goal to have a three-point game along with Tomko.  Wilson and Kinder each had an assist to go with a goal, while Jake Weldon and Miles Giorgione each had a pair of assists to close out the group of multi-point performances.  Kirill Proskurin and Christian Meisinger each had assists in the win as well.

Marian went on to outshoot UW-Oshkosh 57-35 in the victory with Fredrik Radbjer stopping 34 shots to earn the win in goal.

The finale of the series proved to be much closer but Marian would score the first four goals of the game to cruise to a 4-1 victory.  Daniel Roe scored two of the first three goals as the Sabres were able to build a comfortable 3-0 lead heading into the third.  Kinder assisted each Roe goal, while a Mills goal was sandwiched between the two tallies from Roe.

Wilson then extended the lead over the Titans to open the third period, assists to Roe and Proskurin.  UW-Oshkosh avoided the shutout scoring a goal with just six seconds remaining in regulation to set the final.

Marian once again had a heavy advantage in shots as they went on to out shoot UW-Oshkosh 46-32.  Justin Davidson had another big appearance in net for the Sabres with 31 saves.

Marian returns to action to open the second half when the Sabres host Northern Michigan for a two-game set at Blue Line Jan. 26-27.  The puck is set to drop at 7:30 p.m. for the opener and 2:30 p.m. in the finale.
