Sabre baseball suffers road sweep at Beloit

BELOIT, Wis. - Marian University baseball (13-19, 9-7 NACC) dropped a pair of non-conference games at Beloit with final scores of 8-7 in eight innings and 10-2.

The Sabres led for most of the opening game but a late rally from the Buccanneers gave Beloit the victory.  Marian used a two-run home run from sophomore Jake Arens in the first inning to take an early 2-1 lead after the first inning.  A balk in the third inning allowed junior Jake Falish to score before Falish brought in freshman Ricky Lee in the fourth.  Freshman Nick Dugandzic then hit a two-RBI single into left field that scored Falish and freshman Ryan Ellingson to give MU a 7-2 lead.

Beloit began their rally in the sixth inning where they plated two runs to cut the deficit to three.  The Buccanneers then were able to take advantage of two walks and a hit by pitch to tie the game and force extras.  Marian would go down in order in their half of the eighth before Beloit walked-off the Sabres with a one-out single.

Freshman Noah Imrie earned the start and tossed 5.0 innings of four-hit ball only allowing one earned run and striking out five.  Three Sabres had multi-hit games led by Dugandzic who finished 2-for-4 with two runs driven in and a run scored.

Marian once again took an early lead in the second game but an eight-run fourth inning from the Buccanneers allowed Beloit to secure a sweep.  An RBI single from freshman Alex Behr in the first followed by freshman Anthony Sottile bringing in junior Cole Clark in the fourth is all the Sabres could muster in the game two defeat.

Falish was the lone Sabre with a multi-hit game going 2-4 with a run scored.

Marian returns to NACC action hosting Lakeland for a 3 p.m. twin bill from Herr-Baker Field tomorrow, Tuesday, May 1.
