Woeshnick to Lead Men's and Women's Golf Programs

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – Marian University Director of Athletics Jason Murphy has announced that Duane Woeshnick will take over both the men’s and women’s golf programs, effective immediately. Woeschnick is no stranger to the men’s side as he served as interim head coach last spring, guiding two golfers to All-Northern Athletics Conference honors.

On the women’s side, former head coach and on-staff golf professional, Bill Peters, will remain with the program by serving as assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s programs in addition to his head women’s basketball coaching responsibilities.

Upon Woeshnick taking over interim duties of the men’s program last spring, the team jumped from seventh, after the first two rounds in the fall, to fifth by the end of the tournament. Cory Ashbeck and Max Richardson highlighted the team’s accomplishments by each placing in the top-10 to earn All-NAC honors. As a team, Marian shot the second-best team score of the final two rounds of the championship and return everyone on the squad in 2012-13.

“I want to first thank Jason Murphy for giving me the opportunity to be the head men's and women's golf coach,” Woeshnick said. “It is very exciting opportunity to lead and build the future of the men's and women's golf programs here at Marian.”

Prior to his interim duties with the men’s golf team, Woeshnick was an assistant on the men’s golf staff for the past four seasons. He also helped out on the women’s hockey side for one year following a five-year stint as assistant coach with the men’s hockey team.

Woeshnick has served as a professional caddie at Whistling Straits/Blackwolf Run Golf Course in Kohler for the past 12 years. There, he has caddied in practice rounds for the 2004 and 2010 PGA Championships, as well as the 2007 U.S. Senior Open.

His will also serve as the head girls’ hockey coach for the WIAA Division I Fond du Lac/Waupun Warbirds.

Woeshnick currently resides in Fond du Lac.
