FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – Marian University is helping recognize “Division III Week,” April 8-13. It is the second annual celebration of NCAA Division III Week, which brings into focus the well-rounded collegiate experience for student-athletes that involves “a balance of rigorous academics, competitive athletics, and the opportunity to pursue the multitude of other co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities offered on Division III campuses.”
Division III is the largest division in NCAA, representing 446 member institutions spanning 43 conferences. Of active Division III institutions, 80 percent are private, while the average enrollment at a Division III institution is 2,734. Over 175,000 student-athletes competed at the Division III level in 2011-12. That’s an average of 400 student-athletes per Division III school.
Marian University, being a private Catholic institution, sponsors 15 varsity athletic programs and has an enrollment of 1,400.
In an effort to recognize this special week, Marian is hosting NCAA Division III Week & National Student-Athlete Day this Saturday, April 13.
The athletics department will be hosting a tailgate party during the second game of baseball’s doubleheader against Edgewood College at Herr-Baker Field. The event will take place from 3-4:30 p.m.
Everyone is welcomed to take part in this event and celebrate the importance of academics, athletics and the involvement of Marian student-athletes on campus and in the community.
