LA CROSSE, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University men's golf team finished 17th as a team at the Ronnie Eastman Invitational, hosted by Viterbo University at the La Crosse Country Club, Sun.-Mon., Oct. 7-8.
The Sabres were 15th in the standings after a day one score of 330, but fell two spots after a round two score of 337 to finish with a 667 in the two-day event. Max Richardson and Kyle Bruce led the way on day one with a pair of 79's. Bruce followed it up with a second round score of 78 to finish with a 13-over (157) and in a tie for 29th place to lead Marian.
Richardson shot an 82 this afternoon to finish four strokes back of his teammate and in a tie for 46th. Robbie Bailey finished with a two-day score of 172 (83-89) to place in a tie for 82nd, while Chris Janisse (89-88-177) and Ty McLaughlin (107-94-201) finished in 92nd and 96th, respectively.
Grand View University took home the team title with a score of 606 (295-311) to win by three strokes. Max McGrail of Iowa Western CC was the individual medalist, firing a tournament low-round score of 66 on day one, followed by a 75 on day two for a combined score of 141, three strokes ahead of the second place finisher Josh Udelhofen (70-74-144) of Clarke University.
It was the final tune-up for Marian as it gets set for the start of the Northern Athletics Conference Championship, which will see the first two rounds held at Whistling Straits – Irish Course, Sun.-Mon., Oct. 14-15, in Kohler, Wis.
