Aitken Fills Out Men's Hockey Coaching Staff

FOND DU LAC, Wis. ( – Marian University Head Men's Hockey Coach A.J. Aitken has announced his coaching staff for the upcoming 2012-13 season. Taylor Langford, Mike Lane and former Marian forward, Chris Thompson, will be seen standing alongside Aitken on the Sabre bench this season.

"I'm very excited to welcome Taylor Langford, Mike Lane and Chris Thompson to our coaching staff as I know they will be valuable assets to the Marian Hockey program," Aitken said. "Taylor has been associated with numerous championship teams, while Mike brings over 20 years of experience and Chris continues to bleed Marian Blue."

Langford, a proven winner, was a two-time national champion for St. Norbert College. He finished up his Green Knights career with 11 goals and 18 assists for 29 career points and served as assistant captain on the 2010-11 national championship team. Prior to joining the St. Norbert, Langford won two league championships with the Nanaimo Clippers of the BCHL and an Air Canada Cup. His duties will include recruiting, assisting with practice, player evaluation, game management and video analysis.

Lane is quite familiar with the Blue and White as he mentored the goaltenders on the women's side a season ago. This year he will transition to the men's side. He played three years of minor-pro hockey in the Canadian Hockey League before taking on various coaching and advisory positions in the greater Milwaukee area. He remains the Regional Director of Elite Goalies, working with Mike Valley, goalie coach of the Dallas Stars.

Thompson, who finished up his Sabre career in 2011-12, rejoins the program as a staff assistant. He played all four seasons for Marian, compiling 17 goals and 34 assists for 51 points over 103 games played. This past season, he tallied four goals and 10 assists for 14 points as the Sabres made it all the way to the MCHA Harris Cup Semifinals. His duties will include assisting with practice, player evaluation, recruiting and video analysis.

Preparation begins shortly for the start of the 2012-13 season when the Sabres host UW-Stout at the Blue Line Family Ice Center Oct. 20.
