FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) -- The Sixth Annual Pink Out event has been set for Dec. 8, at the Blue Line Family Ice Center in Fond du Lac. The Marian men's hockey team will face off against 14th-ranked MSOE in an MCHA league contest at 4 p.m. followed by the women's hockey team taking on UW-Eau Claire at 7 p.m. The games will be dedicated to breast cancer awareness with a fundraiser run by Marian University students. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Agnesian Healthcare Imaging Center to provide mammogram screenings to women of the Fond du Lac area who cannot afford the procedure.
Last year's Pink Out event was coordinated for the first time by the students of the Sports and Recreation Management (SRM) program and a check of $2,500 was donated to Agnesian last February.
Admission for this year's event will be $5 at the gate, but free for Marian students and children 10 years of age and under. T-shirts are being sold to raise money as part of the fundraiser for breast cancer. "Ice Out Breast Cancer" Pink Out shirts can be pre-purchased by contacting Taylor Hozeska. Deadline for orders is Monday, Dec. 3. Contact Taylor at email@example.com. Additional fundraising efforts will also include a bake sale, gift basket raffle, and Chuck-a-Puck contest.
The success of Pink Out will be largely attributed to the combined efforts of the Marian students of the SRM program, overseen by Dr. James Gray, professor at Marian. Students of the SRM program coordinated the Midnight Madness event, which served as a preview event for the Marian men's and women's basketball teams in early November, and will carry momentum from that event into "Ice Out Breast Cancer."
Midnight Madness sparked school spirit for the 2012-13 basketball seasons and raised roughly $1,200, which will contribute to and be included in the efforts for the upcoming "Ice Out Breast Cancer" event.
