WAUKESHA, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – Freshman forward Brett Campbell (Hilton Beach, Ontario) has been named MCHA Freshman of the Week after registering five points in a series sweep of Northland College over the weekend, the league office announced this afternoon, Dec. 3.
Campbell scored two goals and dished out three assists against the visiting LumberJacks this past weekend. The Hilton Beach, Ontario native found the net in each contest, while accounting for the game-winner in the series finale Saturday. His scored a goal and added an assist in leading Marian (6-5-1, 6-2-0 MCHA) to a 6-3 win in the series opener Friday night.
The freshman then followed it up by assisting on two of three first-period Marian goals before blasting home his second goal of the season late in the second period. It would go down as the eventual game-winner as the Sabres cruised to a 6-4 win over Northland and extended their Northern Division lead to four points.
Logan Lemirande was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week following an eight-point weekend, while MSOE's Nick Kohn was voted MCHA Defensive Player of the Week after stopping 58-of-60 shots between the pipes.
Campbell and the Sabres will host the Raiders of MSOE in a two-game home-and-home series beginning this Friday, Dec. 7, with a 7:05 p.m. start in Milwaukee. Both teams will wrap up the series with a 4 p.m. start in Fond du Lac Saturday, Dec. 8.
