APPLETON, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) - In their second game of the weekend as a part of the MIAC/NCHA Showcase, Marian University went toe-to-toe with Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, Nov. 30 at the Appleton Ice Arena. A third period lead would be erased by the Gusties as they won 3-2.

On Friday night, Gustavus Adolphus finished in a 6-6 tie with Lawrence, after scoring five unanswered to come back from a four-goal deficit. Their offense continued to click on Saturday, getting on the board first on a goal from Cory Leivermann.

Trailing by one, senior Matt Williams took over in the second, scoring 23 seconds in to equalize, and then later at 11:49 to take the lead. Senior Tyler Klein and freshman Brodie Jamieson collected the helpers on both of Williams' goals.

Twenty minutes away from a weekend split, the Sabres came out in the third and were rudely greeted by two Gustie goals in the first five minutes. Tony Paulson brought the teams back to level pegging at 2:17, only to have teammate Drew Aspinwall score the game-winner at 4:56 of the third.

The loss drops Marian to 4-7 on the year as the team is currently on a three-game losing streak. They'll look to break out of their funk back at the Blue Line next weekend as they host Adrian College who currently is tied for the lead at the top of the NCHA with St. Norbert.
