WAUKESHA, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) - The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association has selected Marian senior Tyler Klein as its Offensive Player of the Week. Klein and the Sabres registered their second sweep of the 2013-14 season.
Klein helped the Sabres to a strong start in Mequon, Wis. last Friday night, scoring just 37 seconds into the contest. The goal would go on to serve as the game-winner as senior Josh Baker turned away all 36 shots he saw. Klein returned to score his second of the night late in the third period to give the Sabres a sigh of relief.
The Fargo native returned to the Blue Line for his last regular season home game on Saturday and went out in commanding fashion. Klein's goal at 5:47 of the third period gave Marian a 5-2 lead and sent them on their way to a weekend sweep of the Falcons.
Klein now stands at 12 goals and 15 assists on the year, good for 27 points. Friday's game was his first multiple-goal effort since his third period hat-trick against his former team, UW-Superior, in November. This is the second time this season that Klein has been selected as Offensive Player of the Week.
The Sabres head up to Hancock, Mich. this weekend for their series against Finlandia. Marian enters on a four-game winning streak and is in the hunt for a strong finish heading into the Harris Cup Playoffs.
