Second half Spartan surge too much for Sabre men's lacrosse

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Marian University men's lacrosse (0-4, 0-0 MLC) led early but ultimately fell to Dubuque by a 6-3 final.

In a defensive quarter, Nick Klotz was the only one who could find the back of the net, with a man-advantage, at the 12:12 mark of the first quarter to give the Sabres a 1-0 lead into the first break.  Garrett Houlihan gave the Sabres a two-goal advantage at the 10:38 mark with his seventh goal of the year.

The Spartans answered, however, closing out the second quarter with a pair of goals to tie the game at halftime.  Dubuque managed to take their first lead of the game midway through the third quarter before Klotz tied the game with his second goal of the game, eighth of the season.

Dubuque once again had an answer as they managed to close out the game scoring the final three goals to earn the non-conference win.

Marian won seven of the 13 faceoffs in the game with Rob Wilson earning six faceoff wins.  Austin Finley picked up seven ground balls, while Connor Houlihan had five ground balls.  Finley also led the way in caused turnovers along with Garrett Houlihan as each caused a pair of turnovers.

In goal, Gavin Taquino had his best game of the season making nine saves on 15 shots for a 60.0-percent save percentage.

Marian is set for their first home game in program history Thursday, March 8 at 7 p.m. from Smith Field.
