FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University men's soccer team jumped out to an early, 1-0, lead, but after two quick unanswered goals by visiting Adrian College, the Sabres would lose 3-1 in non-conference action this afternoon, Sept. 9.
The Peltonen duo struck again as Zach scored from six yards out, assisted by older brother, Nate, in the 10th minute to give the Sabres an early lead. The Sabres were unable to hold the lead however.
Marian dropped to 0-3-1 on the season, while the Bulldogs improved to 1-3-0.
Despite outshooting the Bulldogs, 15-12, the Sabres weren't able to convert on enough scoring chances to put away the Bulldogs. Meanwhile, Adrian made its shots on goal count when needed. Seven minutes after the Sabre goal, the Bulldogs' Ryan McCarthy would even the score. The Bulldogs would score again to take the outright lead with a breakaway goal from Nick Minshall in the 35th minute.
In the second period, the Sabre defense would stand strong until a goal by Adrian's Riley Jackson in the 84th minute would put the game out of reach for good. The Sabres had only five shots on goal and three of them came in the last five minutes of the game.
The Sabres will be back in action for another non-conference match-up on Wednesday as they host the Titans of UW-Oshkosh. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. at Smith Fields.
