Sabres and Cougars Battle to 1-1 Tie

River Forest, Ill. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University men's soccer team settled for another 1-1 draw against Northern Athletics Conference opponent, Concordia University Chicago, this afternoon, Sept. 22. The Cougars took an early 1-0 lead scoring in the 27th minute, but the Sabres battled to tie with six minutes remaining in regulation.

The equalizer came on Danny Heerhold's first career goal in the 84th minute on an assist by Ramon Sutherland.

Marian moves to 0-4-4 overall, 0-1-2 in the NAC, while CUC moves to 0-7-1 (0-2-1 NAC).

Concordia Chicago's DeAndre McLaurin scored in the 27th minute of the game, penetrating a Sabres defense that held Aurora to just one goal in 120 minutes earlier in the week. Marian keeper, Bryce Woldt, made seven saves, while holding off the Cougar offense with two of his saves coming in the second overtime.

The Sabres managed 18 shots while six were on goal. With only six minutes remaining in regulation, Heerhold broke the shutout by scoring in the 84th minute.

With three minutes remaining in the second overtime, the Sabres got two shots off, but Courgar keeper, Jorge Guzman, saved a shot by Heerhold, while Nate Peltonen missed wide left.

The Sabres continue their road trip, taking on Milwaukee School of Engineering in Milwaukee, Wed., Sept. 26, at 7 p.m.
