FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University men's soccer team was unable to handle 13th-ranked Dominican University, losing 4-0 this afternoon Sept. 29.
The Sabres were able to keep the match close, trailing only 1-0 at half, but the high powered Stars netted three additional goals to put the game out of reach. Sabre keeper, Bryce Woldt, was tested early and often as the Stars put up 26 shots while eight were on goal. Jameson Hoerter would replace Woldt in the 60th minute as he also withstood shots from the Stars, while two were on goal.
Marian dropped to 0-6-4 overall, 0-3-2 in the NAC. Dominican improves to 7-1-1 (6-0 NAC).
After holding the Stars to a 1-0 lead in the half, Star Billy Eddy wasted no time widening the gap, heading in ball, assisted by Ryan Roberts in the 45th minute. Dominican would score again after a mishap from Sabre keeper, Woldt, leaving the net wide open for Marco Alvarez. Star Andy Lynch would put the game out of reach, 4-0, while netting a goal from a penalty kick.
Star keeper, Max Gutbrod, had a relatively easy day as the Sabres only put up four shots, while two were on goal. Zach Peltonen tested Gutbrod right away in the second minute, but Gutbroad would save the ball from the net only one other time, in the 33rd minute with a shot from Nate Peltonen.
The Sabres continue to seek their first victory of the season as they host Edgewood College, Tues., Oct. 2, at Smith Fields. Game is slated to kick off at 7 p.m.
