Mudd, Zank Earn Capital One Academic All-District Honors
FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – For the first time, two Marian University men's soccer players have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 6 team as Denny Mudd and Everett Zank have earned the honor in 2012. Both players are now eligible to earn Academic All-American status, which for Zank, would be his second such honor after earning it last year.
For Zank, a senior criminal justice major who sports a 3.99 GPA, it is his second Academic All-District honor in as many seasons. The Sun Prairie native was also an NSCAA All-North/Central Region Scholar Third Team selection as well in 2011. He started all 17 games for the Sabres and finished third in points after scoring two goals and adding two assists for six points. The midfielder's second goal of the season proved to be the game-winner in a 2-1 victory over Edgewood back on Oct. 2. He also added an assist in the match.
Mudd, a senior double-majoring in chemistry and biology with a 3.97 GPA, earned his first Academic All-District honor after also being selected to the NSCAA All-North/Central Region Third Team in 2011. He missed the first four games of the regular season due to a leg injury, but returned to start 12 of Marian's final 13 games. The Libertyville, Ill. native scored his first career goal in a 3-2 loss to Concordia Wisconsin on the road, converting a penalty kick to tie the game in the 67th minute.
The Capital One Academic All-American program was created and is operated by the college Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The 2012 Academic All-American team for NCAA Division III men's soccer will be announced on November 27.
