BELOIT, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com - The Sabres continued their non-conference campaign Wednesday night, traveling to Beloit, Wisconsin to take on the Bucaneers of Beloit College. Marian was looking to build on their early season success, only losing their opener to Emory. Since returning to Wisconsin, the Sabres have gone 3-0-1, with win number three marking a special occasion for Head Coach Craig Peltonen.
Both teams showed glimpses of offensive promise in the opening 45, but it would be Danny Hodorowski that would put the Bucs on the board first, scoring in the 60'. The lead would stand for less than two minutes before Zach Peltonen and Jacob Dorsey connected on a corner to knot things up at one a piece.
The teams would again trade chances for the rest of regulation, but were unable to capitalize, forcing extra time. With 39 seconds remaining in the first overtime period, senior David Reinke banged home the winner from freshman Nick Venturini, sending the Sabres to victory. The victory also served as a landmark for Head Coach Craig Peltonen, as it was his 200th with the Men's Soccer program at Marian.
The win matches the mark achieved by the Sabres in 2012, where they finished 3-9-6. They will look to continue their streak on Saturday as they open up Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play, hosting MSOE at 12 p.m. on Smith Field.
