FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Despite a furious second-half rally the Marian University men's soccer team was unable to complete the comeback as Concordia Wisconsin edged the Sabres 3-2.
CUW (11-4-0, 4-4-0 NACC) struck in the opening minutes of the first half and went into the break with a 2-0 advantage.
MU (5-8-1, 3-4-1 NACC) started the second half on the right foot. Ramon Sutherland delivered a pass to Alonso Fragoso inside the penalty box and the Cicero, Ill. native headed it home to cut the deficit to within one.
However, 20 minutes later CUW scored and regained its two-goal advantage.
In the waning moments of regulation Muhammed Abshir scored off a rebound to bring the deficit back to one.
CUW outshot MU by an 18-11 margin, but the Sabres added eight shots on net in the second half.
Abshir led the Sabres with five shots, while Fragoso chipped in with four.
MU returns to the pitch Saturday at Benedictine.
