Marian men's soccer posts second straight shutout

Cade Klusendorf battles for the ball.

FOND DU LAC - Marian University men's soccer (2-2-0, 0-0-0 NACC) didn't allow a goal for their second straight game defeating Northland 2-0 from Smith Field.

The Sabre defense was tough once again as Marian did not allow a single shot in the opening half against the LumberJacks.  A goal from freshman Kylar Narance opened the scoring at the 28:10 mark.  Sophomore Cade Klusendorf chipped the ball deep to freshman Juan Herrera who got the ball past the keeper to Narance who was easily able to bury his first career goal with the empty net in front of him.

The second half proved to be much closer as Marian only managed to outshoot Northland 7-6 but senior Ian Chacon (2-1-0) was up to the task.  Chacon stopped all four shots on goal he faced including a brilliant save late in the game to preserve his 11th career shutout.

Freshman Brandon Mancini also scored his first career goal in the 73rd minute to ice the game and set the final at 2-0.  Some nifty passing from Narance and Klusendorf opened up Mancini who split some defenders with his shot that snuck inside the right post.

The Marian offense was consistent with seven shots in each half as the Sabres held a 14-6 advantage in shots for the game.  Mancini paced the Sabres with four shots, while freshman Ricardo Christian and senior Benjamin Fabian also had multiple shots.

Marian travels to Beloit Friday, Sept. 14 for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff before opening NACC play.
