WAUKESHA, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University men's tennis team was picked to finish eighth in the 2013 Northern Athletics Conference Men's Tennis Preseason Coaches Poll, the league office announced this week.
Concordia University Wisconsin was tabbed to win the league, collecting 92 of the possible 99 points, including five first-place votes after finishing 14-11 overall and 9-0 in the conference for a second straight year. Edgewood (9-19, 7-2 NAC) earned the remaining five first-place votes and 87 poll votes in total for second place.
MSOE (9-10, 8-1 NAC), last year's runner-up, was third with 77 points, followed by Aurora (7-9, 6-3 NAC) with 75 points. Dominican (6-7, 5-4 NAC), Wisconsin Lutheran (2-8, 2-7 NAC) and Concordia Chicago (4-9, 4-5 NAC) took the next three spots in the poll with 57, 46 and 42 points, respectively.
Marian (3-7, 3-6 NAC) was eighth with 33 poll points with Rockford (1-9, 1-8 NAC) and Lakeland (0-9, 0-9 NAC) rounding out the 10-team league with 21 and 20 points, respectively.
The league's six-team tournament will begin April 30, with the top-two seeds receiving byes and the latter four seeds matching up with the third and fourth seeds earning host privilege. The final two rounds will take place Saturday, May 4, at Kohler Sports Core. The tournament champion will receive the conference's automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division III Championship tournament.
