WAUKESHA, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University men's tennis team was picked to finish ninth in the 2014 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Preseason Poll as voted on by the league's coaches and sports information directors, the league office announced today, Jan. 31.
The Sabres, who finished in an identical ninth position in the standings in 2013, garnered 46 poll points. Concordia Wisconsin claimed 18 of the 20 first-place votes and 198 poll points en route to being tabbed preseason-favorite and in line to win its fourth consecutive NACC title. The Falcons haven't dropped a league match in over three seasons.
MSOE was picked to finish second with 160 poll points, followed by Aurora and Edgewood, which claimed 148 and 145 poll points, respectively. Despite being picked fourth, the Eagles claimed the remaining two first-place votes.
Wisconsin Lutheran (134), Dominican (105), Concordia Chicago (81), Lakeland (56), Marian (46) and Rockford (27) rounded out the 10-team league poll.
The spring season begins this weekend with Edgewood taking part in four matches in Illinois and Iowa.
The Sabres will see their first action at home against Lawrence, March 16, at 10 a.m.
