FOREST PARK, Ill. / RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Marian tennis team came out with their strongest performances of the season on Saturday, April 11, despite being upset by Dominican 9-0 and Concordia Chicago 7-2.
The Sabres struggled to match up well with Dominican in doubles play, but started to feel a rhythm in singles play.
Spencer Braswell led the Sabres as he earned five points in his second set, forcing extra play against opponent, Quinn Porter. Although he was ultimately defeated, it sparked some life into the Sabres for their second set of challengers of the day, Concordia Chicago.
The Sabres competed well in doubles play, winning at least three sets in each of their matches against the Cougars, but fell short.
The success carried over into singles play, where Jacob Ryd and Sam Maetzold won the first matches of the year for the Sabres, each taking their third set 6-0. Carson Johnstone was close to making it three straight matches for the Sabres , but was upset in extra sets to decide the match.
The Sabres look to continue move in the right direction as they head to Chicago, Ill. to take on the Roosevelt Lakers on Sunday, April 12. The match is set to start at 10 a.m.
