Men's tennis puts up a tough fight against Ripon

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The Marian University tennis team hosted the Ripon Red Hawks in a non-conference dual match-up on Sunday, April 19. The Sabres strung together wins in singles play, but ultimately fell 6-3 to the Red Hawks.

The Sabres found some success in doubles, but fell just shy of grabbing some wins.

Payton Trammel and Jacob Ryd led the Sabres (0-11) with six points in doubles, while Sam Maetzold and Carson Johnstone were just behind with five points.

Ryd has continuously found success in his first season on the team. The sophomore grabbed the Sabres first match of the day, winning 6-1 and 6-2.

Sam Maetzold and Carson Johnstone were also able to win matches in singles play. Maetzold won 6-3 and 6-2, while Johnstone went 4-6, 6-4 and 10-5.

The Sabres return to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action on Friday, April 24, when they host the Edgewood Eagles. The match is set to start at 4 p.m.
