KOHLER, Wis. - Marian University men's tennis (0-7, 0-2 NACC) fell to Wisconsin Lutheran in a 5-4 thriller before dropping an 8-1 match to MSOE to open NACC play.
The Sabres started their NACC opener against Wisconsin Lutheran well earning wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Joey Dittman and Danny Roe earned an 8-6 win at the top flight, while Branon Ruis and Zach Stanczyk also earned an 8-6 victory at No. 3. The Warriors would bounce back for the comeback win in singles action, however, as Marian could only manage wins at No. 5 and No. 3. Lawson MacDonald earned the No. 3 victory in a three-set thriller 2-6, 6-2 and 6-3, while Ryan Biffert swept his opponent at No. 5 7-6, 7-4 tiebreaker, and 6-2 in the second set. Roe and Dittman each played three sets at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, but Roe was defeated 6-1 in the final set and Dittman fell 6-2.
MSOE proved to be too much for the Sabres in the second match of the day but Biffert was able to complete an undefeated day taking No. 5 singles once again 7-5, 6-2.
The Sabres were also scheduled to take on Elmhurst in non-conference action over the weekend but that match was postponed with no makeup date announced.
Marian is next scheduled to take on Edgewood, Friday, April 13, at 3 p.m. from Aurora University.
