Marian men's tennis defeats Lakeland in split for first win

MEQUON/KOHLER, Wis. - Marian University men's tennis (1-8, 1-3 NACC) fell to Concordia Wis. 9-0 before defeating Lakeland 6-3 for their first win of the season.

In the opener of the day, the Sabres were shutout by the Falcons despite some tight battles.  Ryan Biffert won his opening set at the No. 5 singles spot 6-3 but was defeated 6-1 in the second set and 10-5 in the winner-take-all third.

The Sabres then traveled to Lakeland where they came away with a victory where two of the three Lakeland wins were by default.  Joey Dittman and Danny Roe won the No. 1 doubles flight 8-1 before the Sabres took every singles flight except No. 6 due to default.

Roe took home a 7-5, 6-0 victory at No. 1 and his doubles-mate Dittman earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 2.  Then Lawson MacDonald won at No. 3 6-1, 6-2 followed by a No. 4 win from Brandon Ruis 6-2, 6-3.  Biffert rounded out the singles with a 6-0, 6-3 win at the No. 5 flight.

Marian is next in action Friday, April 27 where the Sabres will travel to Aurora for an 11 a.m. match before a 6 p.m. match at Edgewood.
