FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University men's volleyball (8-11, 5-7 MCVL) cruised to a sweep of Loras with set finals of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-18.
Marian came out with an early 9-5 lead to open the match held this slim margin out to a 19-16 score. The Sabres then closed out the set strong scoring six consecutive points with a pair of kills from sophomore Ben Walter.
The Sabres opened with a .455 hitting percenage totaling 17 kills to only two errors in the set.
The second set saw Loras take an early 7-6 lead but another spurt from the Sabres gave Marian an 12-8 advantage. The DuHawks cut the deficit down to one on two occassions but Marian was able to handle the push and closed out the set scoring the final three points.
MU was able to jump out to a fast start in the third scoring seven of the first eight points. The Sabres were able to hold this lead throughout the set and an 11-6 run in the middle of the set clinched the sweep for Marian.
Junior Aaron Wendels recorded a match-high 13 kills with Walter chipping in 11 kills with a .348 hitting percentage for the match. Sophomore Cullen Liberski had a match-high 14 digs while fellow sophomore Joey Dittman assisted on 35 Sabre kills with six digs. Four different Sabres recorded double-digit blocks in the win.
Marian travels to Lakeland for a 7 p.m. tip Monday, March 13.
