Lakeland defense stymies Marian

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - Marian University men's volleyball (8-12, 5-8 MCVL) was defeated by Lakeland in straight sets with set scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-13.

The Sabres couldn't get much going offensively as Lakeland was able to jump out to fast starts in all three sets holding Marian to a -.054 hitting percentage for the match.  The Marian defense totaled 39 digs to Lakeland's 32, while the offense had 14 more attacks than the Muskies.

Sophomore Jon Smallpage had a team-high seven kills in the loss, while freshman Jacob DeGroot hit .444 with five kills to only one error on nine attempts.  In the back row, sophomore Cullen Liberski had a match-high 13 digs and fellow sophomore Ben Walter had 10 digs.

Marian takes the weekend off before hosting Mount St. Joseph Friday, March 24 for a 7 p.m. first serve.
