No. 9 Eagles too much for Sabre men's volleyball

Aaron Wendels goes up for an attack.

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University men's volleyball (5-9, 0-4 NACC) fell to No. 9 Benedictine in straight sets with scores of 25-12, 25-19 and 25-21 to close out a four-match homestand.

The Eagle front row held the Sabre offense all match long as Marian would only manage a .048 hitting percentage in the loss.  Benedictine closed out the match with 13.0 blocks.

The Sabres had a strong third set leading 12-11 to open the final stanza.  A mini-run of 5-1 proved to be all the Eagles needed, however, as they retook the lead at 16-13 and the Sabres couldn't climb out of the hole.  The Sabre offense recorded 14 kills in the set with a .195 attack percentage in their best offensive set of the night.

Senior Aaron Wendels produced a double-double with a team-high 14 kills and 11 digs, while also recording a .205 hitting percentage and three service aces.  Junior Cullen Liberski had 11 digs in the back row and junior Ben Walter assisted on three blocks as well.

Marian returns to action traveling to nationally-ranked Dominican Friday, February 23 for a 7 p.m. first serve.
