Women's Basketball Picked Fourth in Preseason Coaches' Poll
WAUKESHA, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The 2012 Northern Athletics Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll has been released and the Marian University women's basketball team was picked to finish fourth in the North behind preseason favorite Concordia University Wisconsin, the league office announced. Wisconsin Lutheran College was the unanimous choice to win the South Division, garnering all 13 first-place votes.
The Sabres finished 13-13, 9-9 in the NAC last season and will return the majority of its lineup after losing just one in Alexis Becker, who will be difficult to replace after becoming the 12th player in Marian history to eclipse 1,000 points during her senior season.
Concordia Wisconsin garnered 10 of the coaches' 13 first-place votes to finish voting points ahead of Lakeland, which got three first-place votes and 74 overall. Edgewood was picked third with 62 points, followed by Marian (49), Maranatha (43), MSOE (30) and Alverno (18).
In the South, WLC was the overwhelming choice with 78 points, followed by Benedictine (55), Dominican (53), Concordia Chicago (43), Rockford (22) and Aurora (20).
The league's eight- team conference tournament will take place Feb. 16-23, with the tournament champion receiving the NAC's automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA III Championship Tournament. The top four teams from each division qualify for the conference tournament.
