Marian women's basketball earns United Way volunteerism award

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University women's basketball has been selected as 2016 United Way Community Volunteer All-Stars.

"I was brought to tears after finding out we had won this award," commented Marian head women's basketball coach Lyndsey Seewald.  "As a coach, you create opportunities for your student-athletes so that they will learn the true meaning of altruism; not once did our players ask why or complain, they gave their time because they knew it was their way of giving back for all they have been given.  We are infinitely grateful and accept this award with great honor and pride."

The award was established to honor individuals who have demonstrated exceptional participation and dedication to the work of our community. It is presented to a company, service club, organization or sports team that goes above and beyond what is expected of them through community outreach and volunteerism.  The United Way has chosen to recognize the Marian University women's basketball team for their many hours of volunteerism and service to the Fond du Lac community to ensure that it remains place that everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

"I am extremely proud of the players and the coaches of our women's basketball program for being recognized for such a wonderful honor," commented director of athletics Jason Bartelt.  "It shows the level of dedication and support we want our athletic department to provide to the Fond du Lac community."

The Sabres will accept the award prior to their final home game Wednesday, Feb. 15 when MU hosts MSOE for a 7 p.m. tip.
