Lakeland pulls away from Sabre women's basketball

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University women's basketball (2-8, 0-5 NACC) fell to Lakeland by an 84-52 score in NACC action.

After trailing 8-3 to open the game, the Sabres were able to quickly cut the deficit down to two on multiple occasions.  In the final minutes of the opening quarter, a layup from junior Molly Magnus put the Sabres in a tie with Lakeland at 12-12 with 2:27 left.  Lakeland responded by scoring the final six points of the quarter and held the lead the remainder of the game.

The Muskies would shoot over 50-percent from the field in the final three quarters after Marian held the Muskies to 5-18 (.278) shooting in the opening quarter.  Marian was also able to put together a strong fourth quarter offensively where they shot 8-14 (.571) from the field.

Junior Sarah Schultz led the way in the fourth quarter with six points as Marian starters accounted for 17 of the 18 points scored in the quarter.  Senior Brandi Bender led the way for Marian with 14 points, while junior Rachel Serchen added 10 points and nine rebounds.

Marian posted their second best shooting percentage from the field in the loss as the Sabres finished 18-48 (.375) from the field.

Marian opens the second half against at home Concordia Chicago Saturday, Dec. 30 for a 4:15 p.m. tip.
