Sabres Earn Draw, Remain Unbeaten in NCHA Play
FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's hockey team battled for a 1-1 (OT) tie hosting St. Norbert College this evening Nov. 17 at Blueline Family Center.
Despite the majority of the game being controlled by the Knights, the Sabres made the most of their chances. With seven minutes remaining in the game, Marian's Erin Dunphy netted a goal to tie the game at one apiece. The Sabres had a few scoring opportunities ine extra session, but none were able to find the back of the net.
Marian moved to 3-2-1 overall, 2-0-1 in the NCHA, while St. Norbert moved to 2-2-2 (1-1-1 NCHA).
Sabre netminder, Amanda Alexander, kept her team in contention, facing 45 shots and stopping 44. The lone goal came in the first period at the 13:30 mark with a goal scored by Knight, Tarraneh Dadgar. From there and until the end of the game, Alexander remained a wall.
Shots occurred scarcely on the offensive side for the Sabres, but at the 7:12 mark of the third period, Dunphy, assisted by Kaitlyn Johnson, knotted up the game up, while eventually sending it into overtime.
St. Norbert tried to end the game quickly with three consecutive shots, but Alexander stood her ground stopping the offensive surge.
Game two of the series resumes tomorrow as the Sabres visit the Knights at the Corner Stone Community Center, Nov. 18. Puck is set to drop at 4 p.m.
