SUPERIOR, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – In game two of the two game series, the Marian University Women's hockey team was handed a 9-1 loss against the University of Wisconsin – Superior, this afternoon, Jan. 26 at the Siinto S. Wessman Arena.
Superior scored in all three periods, making it difficult for Marian to come away with a victory. The Yellowjackets scored four goals in the opening period, and later would score another three in the final period. Marian managed a goal in the first period, but were unable to keep up offensively.
Wis. – Superior improved to 11-6-1 overall and 8-5-1 in NCHA play with the win, while Marian dropped to 3-13-2 (2-9-2 NCHA) with the loss.
Kelsey Firkus and Dani Schultz led the scoring attack for the Yellowjackets with two goals each, while the other five goals came from five different Yellowjackets.
After the four initial goals from Superior in the first period, Rachel Mullendore managed to put the Sabres on board, scoring at the 14:16 mark. From there, Superior continued their offensive dominance throughout the game, adding two goals in the second period, and three in the final period.
Marian looks to put their offensive and defensive woes behind them as they face the University of Wisconsin – River Falls for a two game, Friday-Saturday series starting Feb. 1. Puck is set to drop at 3:30 pm at Blueline Ice Center.
