STEVENS POINT, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) - The Marian University women's hockey team looked to avenge a Jan. 16, loss to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, but it was not in the cards, this evening, Feb. 5, as the Pointers were, 7-0, winners at Ice Hawks Arena.
The Pointers had seven different scorers in the game and accumulated 46 shots throughout the three periods. Megan Nickelson led the Pointers with a goal and two assists on the evening. Both Amanda Alexander and Ali Glazer for the Sabres saw time in the net, but neither were unable to stop the Pointers from scoring.
UW-Stevens Point improved to 11-7-3 overall and 9-4-3 in NCHA play with the win, while Marian dropped to 3-16-2 (2-12-2 NCHA) with the loss.
In the first period, the Pointers out shot Marian 16-2 and found the net twice at the 6:08 mark and 16:55 mark. Kristin Skubic and Katie Lindsley accounted for the two shots for the Sabres.
Glazer saw no let up from the opposing side as she faced 20 shots in the second period, letting up four goals. All four goals came within 11 minutes of each other. Marian leading scorer, Amanda Waigand, added two shots in the period, but was denied a goal by Pointer goalie, Janna Beilke-Skoug.
Although there was little chance of a comeback, the Sabres pulled in the defensive reigns in the third period, allowing only 10 shots and one goal.
Marian is back in action with a two-game series this Friday and Saturday as it matches up against #10 Adrian starting Feb. 8 at 8:00 p.m. at Blue Line Family Ice Center.
