FOND DU LAC – Marian University women's lacrosse head coach David Pomeroy has announced the inaugural schedule for the program as the Sabres enter their inaugural season. The Sabres have already been accepted to compete in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) this upcoming season, which is a 14-team league with teams from Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois.
Marian will be competing in 7 home contests throughout the spring at Smith Field and will be on the road for the remaining 11 competition dates taking on both conference and some top-ranked non-conference opponents, including Colorado College and Johnson & Wales University.
The Sabres will open up the inaugural season on the road competing against conference opponent Concordia University Chicago Saturday, March 2. They will maintain road games in early March, traveling to Augsburg University Saturday, March 9 followed by another MWLC game at Benedictine University Wednesday, March 13. Marian then comes home for their first home games as part of a triple header of lacrosse at Smith Field Saturday, March 16. The Sabre women's lacrosse program opens the busy day against Monmouth in MWLC action before the men's lacrosse team also takes on Monmouth. The Marian women's lacrosse team then takes on Anderson (Ind.) at 6 p.m. to close out the day.
Marian will then head to Colorado for their spring break trip where the Sabres will take on powerhouse program Colorado College Monday, March 18. The team will then play the University of Puget Sound and Johnson & Wales Wednesday, March 20 to round out the trip. This will be a great opportunity for the new program to play against some high caliber, established programs right off the bat.
Next up, the Sabres will be back at home against another conference opponent in Illinois Tech Thursday, March 23. The Sabres then travel to Beloit College for an away game but are quickly back at home Saturday, March 30 to round out a great week of conference play against the third-ranked team, Concordia University Wisconsin.
In April, the Marian women's lacrosse program finds themselves hosting two conference opponents at home. On Saturday, April 6 the University of Northwestern (Minn.) will make the trip to Smith Field for a head-to-head new to the conference game, which will also serve as Senior Day. The team will once again be at home Sunday, competing against Loras College.
The team will then hit the road for a few weeks playing at UW-River Falls Saturday, April 13. This is also the inaugural season for UWRF. Marian is back in action Tuesday, April 16 when the team will head to Aurora to take on the Spartans who landed in 4th in conference this past season. On Friday, April 16, the Sabres head to Iowa to take on Wartburg College, followed by Cornell College Saturday, April 20, and finally round out that trip at Clarke University Sunday, April 21.
The Sabres will return home for the final regular season game of the year against defending conference champion Hamline Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m. from Smith Field.
