Women's Soccer Outlasts MSOE, 2-1

Postgame Interview

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – Goals by Jade Koeune and Laura Maly accounted for a 2-1 victory over visiting MSOE as the Marian University women's soccer team earned its first win of the 2012 campaign and first in Northern Athletics Conference action this evening, Sept. 11.

Koeune's goal in the 14th minute gave the Sabres the lead and Maly's tally proved to be the game-winner as Marian staved off an MSOE comeback attempt in the second half. MU goalkeeper Caitlyn Rosenberger made 10 key saves, including one in which she ranged to her right to make a diving stop in the final minute, to secure the one-goal victory.

Marian improves to 1-3 overall, 1-1 in the NAC, while MSOE falls for the first time this season, dropping to 2-1-1 (1-1 NAC).

Brittany Syms assisted on Koeune's goal in the 14th minute to give Marian its first lead of the season. They would take a 2-0 lead into halftime after Maly's 32nd minute score. Maly took a pass in the middle of the box before making a couple dribbles and depositing a blast into the upper right 90 past MSOE keeper Emma Lumpe.

Rosenberger made six saves in the second half, but Natalie Gayner broke through in the 67th minute to erase the shutout.

MSOE outshot the Sabres, 15-10, in the match. The Raiders challenged Rosenberger 11 times with shots on goal, while Marian put six shots on goal against Lumpe.

Marian will be back in action Thursday, Sept. 13, to take on Wisconsin Lutheran. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. in Milwaukee.
