FOND DU LAC, Wis, (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's soccer team dropped a non-conference match to Elmhurst College, 3-1, as the Blue Jays dominated the majority of the match at Smith Fields, this afternoon, Sept. 16.
The Sabres jumped out to an early lead in the third minute as Leisa Conn netted a goal as Blue Jay goalkeeper, Maddie Fitzpatrick, fell in an effort to make a save. Elmhurst would retaliate, as Amy Baschen and Morgan Geimer became the dynamic duo for the Blue Jays doing all the scoring for Elmhurst. Geimer scored twice while both players assisted for each other's goals.
The Sabres fall to 2-4 overall while the Blue Jays improved to 5-1-1.
Shortly after the Conn goal, Baschen netted a goal after Geimer bent a ball from the corner, right to Baschen to tie the game one a piece. The game remained tied for all but 12 minutes of the game until Geimer struck with a Baschen assisted score to put the Blue Jays ahead 2-1.
The Sabres remained within striking distance until 80th minute of the game when Geimer broke away and scored again, putting the game away, 3-1.
Marian was outshot 24-6 as Sabres' goalkeeper, Caitlyn Rosenberger, kept busy as she would withstand 14 shots in the first half and 10 in the second. Sabres would struggle to gain any offensive momentum as their best opportunities to score were in the 50th minute as Laura Maly's shot was saved and Kylie McArthur missed high in the 53rd minute.
The Sabres have a few days to figure out their offensive woes as their next game is slated for Friday, Sept. 21, at 1 p.m.. Marian will travel to River Forest, Ill. to face Concordia University Chicago in a Northern Athletics Conference match.
