FOND DU LAC, WIS. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's soccer team picked up a key victory, 2-1, hosting Northern Athletics Conference opponent Dominican University, this afternoon, Sept. 29.
The Sabres only put three shots on goal, all in the first half, but three is all they would need as they scored in the 24th and 43rd minutes of the match. The Stars would equally put three shots on goal, but Sabre keeper, Caitlyn Rosenberger held her ground, allowing only the one goal.
Marian improved to 4-5 overall, 4-2 in the NAC. Meanwhile, the Stars dropped to 5-6-0 (4-2 NAC).
Off of the rebound and byproduct of a shot by Maisie Floyd in the 24th minute, Lesia Conn was left with an open net to score her third goal of the season. Dominican would even the score six minutes later with a goal from Daisy Salgodo, assisted by Leah Tedness.
In the 43rd minute, Morgan Ansems would score her first goal of the season as her and Kylie McArthur teamed up to break through the Star defense and put the Sabres up, 2-1. Marian was unable to put another shot on goal, but the Sabre defense held strong to retain a victory.
The Sabres have a few days rest until they visit Lakeland College this Wed., Oct. 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
