SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – Two first half goals paced the Marian University women's soccer team to a big first half lead en route to a 3-0 shutout of host Lakeland College in Northern Athletics Conference play at Lakeland Soccer field this afternoon, Oct. 3.
The Sabres recorded its third shutout of the 2012 campaign as Caitlyn Rosenberger and Jordan Dykstra combined to keep the Muskies off the board. Marian's Jenny Brandt scored her first career goal with a 30th minute tally, followed by Jade Koeune's third goal of the season in the 38th minute to give Marian a 2-0 lead into halftime. Kylie McArthur provided the final insurance goal early in the second half.
Marian improved to 5-5 overall, 5-2 in the NAC with the win, while Lakeland dropped to 3-8 (2-4 NAC) with the loss.
Both of Marian's first half goals came on set pieces. The first goal came off a corner kick in which Brandt was able to head in a Laura Maly service in the 30th minute. Eight minutes later, a Maly service was converted once again.
The sophomore provided her third assist of the season on a free kick to the head of Koeune. The redirection gave the Sabres a comfortable lead heading into the break.
In the 59th minute, Kylie McArthur got in on the scoring with her first career goal, an unassisted tally as she rebounded her own miss to make it 3-0.
The Sabres will be back in action this weekend, taking on Rockford College in a homecoming tilt Saturday, Oct. 6, before hosting UW-Stevens Point in a non-conference match at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7.
