WAUKESHA, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – Sophomore forward Morgan Ansems (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) has been named Northern Athletics Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week, the league office announced today. Ansems scored both goals in a 2-1 win over Benedictine last Saturday, Oct. 14.
The Neenah, Wis. native recorded six shots and scored twice in a crucial road victory for the Marian University women's soccer team. Ansems first goal came in the 59th minute to give the Sabres a 1-0 lead. Following an Eagle goal which tied the score in the 82nd minute, Ansems responded by putting away a turnover in the Benedictine box to give Marian a 2-1 lead in the 89th minute.
The goal held and Marian improved to 7-7 overall, 7-2 in the NAC. Ansems now has three goals on the season and notched her second career multi-goal game as a Sabre. The first one coming in an 8-0 win over Rockford last season.
The Sabres continue their four-game road trip with Concordia Wisconsin (Oct. 17) and Alverno (Oct. 20) this week. They return home for their final two home matches next week, taking on Maranatha Baptist Oct. 23, and UW-La Crosse Oct. 24, to close out the regular season.
