Women's Soccer Picked Fourth in NACC Preseason Poll
WAUKESHA, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's soccer team was picked fourth out of 12 teams in the 2013 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Preseason Poll, voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
The Sabres come in right where they finished up 2012 after going 9-3 in conference play during the regular season. Aurora, which garnered all 24 first-place votes, was the unanimous choice to claim their eighth straight conference championship.
Concordia Wisconsin was runner-up with 252 poll points, 36 points fewer than the preseason-favorite Spartans. Edgewood (231), Marian (219), MSOE (201) and Dominican (172) round out the top-six as potential qualifiers for the NACC tournament.
Concordia Chicago (133), Benedictine (114), Wisconsin Lutheran (113), Alverno (68), Lakeland (56) and Rockford (25) make up 7-12 in the preseason poll.
The NACC's regular season standings determine the teams that qualify for the six-team conference tournament, while the tournament champion receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA III Championship Tournament.
The Sabres begin the 2013 regular season with a home match against Ripon Friday, Aug. 30, at 7 p.m. The event will mark the first live stream broadcast of the season for Marian Athletics, all of which will be free to viewers via SabreAthletics.com.
