Vikings Best Sabres in Non-Conference Action

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's tennis team suffered a 9-0 setback to non-conference foe, Lawrence University, this afternoon, Sept. 9.

The Sabres completed a stretch of four matches in three days, whereas, Lawrence had just one match this weekend and appeared less fatigued en route to a shutout road victory. All of the Vikings singles matches were won in straight sets.

The Vikings improved to 4-2 on the season, while the Sabres fell to 3-5.

Marian fell into a quick hole by dropping all three doubles matches, the closest being at #1 doubles. Ann Goyke and Brynn Hartzell paired together to nearly knock off the #1 pairing of Jenni Roesch and Christina Schaupp, but the Viking duo hung on for the 8-6 win.

In singles, the Sabres best chance at a win was at #5 when Sarah Brooker played Lawrence's Melissa Heeren to an extended second set, but Heeren outlasted Brooker, 6-2, 7-5.

Marian will be back in action Thursday, Sept. 13, when it travels to Sheboygan to take on Lakeland College in Northern Athletics Conference play.
